Genesis 1:3 — Let There Be Light

Image
June 3 Scripture: Genesis 1:3 “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” The Rhythm Genesis 1:3 gives the first spoken command of creation. God speaks. Light comes. There is no struggle in the verse. No delay. No resistance. God does not ask darkness to move. He does not negotiate with the deep. He speaks, and what He speaks becomes. This is the rhythm of creation. The word of God carries the power of God. His speech is not empty sound. His word forms reality. The earth is still formless and void. Darkness is still over the surface of the deep. The Spirit of God is moving over the waters. Then the voice of God enters the scene. “Let there be light.” This light comes before the sun, moon, and stars are appointed later in Genesis 1. That matters. The first light is not dependent on the created lights that will govern days and seasons. It comes directly by the command of God. Creation does not begin with the sun. Creation begins with the voice of Elohim. The Meanin...

Genesis 1:2 — Before Form, Before Fullness

Image
June 2 Scripture: Genesis 1:2 “The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.” The Rhythm Genesis 1:1 declares that Elohim created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:2 shows the earth before it is shaped, filled, named, ordered, and made ready for life. There is no light yet. No sun. No moon. No appointed seasons. No dry land. No garden. No creatures. No human breath. The earth exists, but it is not yet the formed world humanity will know. Scripture says the earth was “formless and void.” The Hebrew phrase is often understood as unformed and unfilled. It describes a created earth that has not yet received structure or fullness. Darkness is over the surface of the deep. The Spirit of God is moving over the surface of the waters. These waters are not yet seas with shorelines. The dry land has not appeared. These are the deep, the unarranged waters before God separates, gathers, names, and...

Genesis 1:1 — In the Beginning, Elohim Speaks

Image
June 1 Scripture: Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” The Rhythm The Bible begins with God. Before light, before land, before water is gathered, before man is formed from dust, before breath enters the human body, there is God. Genesis names Him as Elohim . Elohim is the Creator. The word carries majesty, authority, and fullness. It is plural in form, yet Genesis speaks of Him as One. God created. One God. Full in Himself. Eternal. The One who was, who is, and who will be. This is where Scripture begins. Not with humanity. Not with need. Not with darkness having the final word. The beginning belongs to God. Genesis 1:1 gives the first act of creation: God created the heavens and the earth. This is creation from nothing. Nothing outside God helps Him. Nothing limits Him. Nothing advises Him. He creates because He is Creator. Then the creation story begins to unfold. God creates. The Spirit hovers. Light comes. The Three-in-One are present in the ...

Start Here: The Rhythm of God

Image
This journey begins where Scripture begins. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Before there is human failure, there is God. Before there is sin, there is creation. Before there is confusion, there is divine order. The Bible opens with God creating, the Spirit moving, and light entering the dark. This blog will walk through Scripture slowly, passage by passage, with attention to the rhythm God placed in creation and the ways humanity has stepped out of that rhythm. The goal is not to rush through the Bible or turn every verse into a debate. The goal is to listen carefully, let Scripture speak with Scripture, and notice how the Word still reaches into life today. God created the world with order, purpose, beauty, and movement. Light and darkness. Evening and morning. Seed and harvest. Work and rest. Breath and life. Relationship and responsibility. From the beginning, creation was not random. It was formed by the voice of God and held together by His will. As Chris...

A New Beginning for This Blog

Image
This blog is entering a new season. Beginning June 1, we will start in Genesis and walk through the Bible slowly, passage by passage. The purpose is simple: to listen carefully to Scripture, notice the rhythm God placed in creation, and see how His Word still speaks into life today. Earlier posts have been unpublished as this blog takes on a clearer direction. The heart behind them has not been lost. The focus has simply become sharper. We will begin where Scripture begins: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” From there, we will move through the Bible with care, allowing Scripture to explain Scripture and allowing each passage to speak with honesty, hope, correction, and love. The first chapter of Genesis will follow The Rhythm of Creation . The second chapter will move into Becoming , through Adam and Eve. The third chapter will face Temptation , where humanity begins stepping out of God’s rhythm. This will be a slow walk. A faithful walk. A return to the beginni...
