Genesis 1:3 — Let There Be Light
June 3 Scripture: Genesis 1:3 “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” The Rhythm Genesis 1:3 gives the first spoken command of creation. God speaks. Light comes. There is no struggle in the verse. No delay. No resistance. God does not ask darkness to move. He does not negotiate with the deep. He speaks, and what He speaks becomes. This is the rhythm of creation. The word of God carries the power of God. His speech is not empty sound. His word forms reality. The earth is still formless and void. Darkness is still over the surface of the deep. The Spirit of God is moving over the waters. Then the voice of God enters the scene. “Let there be light.” This light comes before the sun, moon, and stars are appointed later in Genesis 1. That matters. The first light is not dependent on the created lights that will govern days and seasons. It comes directly by the command of God. Creation does not begin with the sun.
